December 2011

_Dear Family and Friends:
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

For me, May 2012 will be a milestone as I graduate from Trinity International University with a B.A. in Biblical Studies. While at college, I have also served as a student intern with The Orchard Evangelical Free Church. I was privileged to lead study groups, contribute to administrative decisions, and preach several times. This brought me great joy, confirming my calling and strengthening my resolution to serve God and others in these ways.

Continuing to trust in His plan and provision, I accepted an invitation to join a short term missions team through TIU. I will be going to Uganda from February 29 through March 11 during our spring break. Uganda is towards the center of East Africa—our team will fly to the capital of Kampala, then divide up to serve in Mbarara in the south and Mbale in the east, near Kenya. This will be an excellent use of my final semester towards a cause I believe in.

_The short term nature of this trip is long term in its vision.

_Each year our school sends teams to cooperate with the exact same groups and institutions, maintaining a continuous and flourishing relationship, coming along side our partners for the work God does around the world. In Uganda, TIU has been formally greeted by the First Lady, and we partner with the Anglican Archbishop for the most strategic ways to serve. We will be working with many children and focus on projects for their education. Matt Kehn is a Trinity graduate and lives with his family in Uganda since 2006. His role with Juna Amagara Ministries and its affiliated Bible Institute will be a major focus for our trip kehnsjam.com/abide/

Will you pray for me?
These next few weeks I will spend many hours with my team—learning about the language, culture, history, and skills for the work we shall do. It is a gracious thing that God uses these experiences to help others and to mold our character. It is also a privilege that TIU gives us this opportunity.
  • Pray for our team to have clarity, humility, and integrity in the process.
  • Pray also our partners like the Kehn family and the Ugandans we will meet, for their strength, resources, and hope in every circumstance. Pray for the flourishing of the regions we visit.
  • Pray that each sacrifice and work of faithfulness makes much of Jesus Christ, his saving work and his loving, righteous rule from the throne of Heaven. Pray for His Kingdom to come increasingly in Uganda.

Will you also consider supporting our team financially?
I am responsible to raise financial support for the cost of this trip. Each team member is to raise $2,650 to cover airfare, housing, food, and ministry expenses. Please consider supporting our trip. I have until March 23 to raise the balance, but a minimum of $2,000 is due by February 13. All donations to this team are tax-deductible.
